Used thermopane sheets

I've lucked into an arrangement with a window contractor, who's going through a subdivision replacing old aluminum frame doorwalls with better insulated vinyl clad wood ones. He gives the the old sashes, and I expect to have a couple dozen on hand by year end.

I'm hoping to build a lean-to greenhouse off the back (South) side of my home using them. What I'm wondering is, is it feasible to take them out of the aluminum frames, (I'm concerned that they won't drain unless vertical.) and set them on the roof like shingles?

I'm not worried about the structural aspects, I'm a mechanical engineer, and won't have any trouble designing the roof joists to support them. But I am worried about exposing the raw edge of the sheet.
