Sounds interesting! I can easily see this working due to what I have seen since my 1970 Small Engine Repair started. My experience in the 80s was to replace points/condensers with a small electronic component. I have not substituted a coil but feel if a close modelâÂÂs fits with the proper specs (index card air gap space) it could work.

If mounting is the issue, reaming, drilling in the laminated metal to mount should not hurt a thing âÂÂIMOâÂÂ. Other than mounting properly, I have not noticed the specs. What dictated your coil as being bad? I had a coil tester vs the engines that would produce fire in a simulation w/o a plug. If you post a Pic of your coil, it might trigger some help.
