You could try a live-catch trap like a HavaHart on the chipmunks. I have caught them on peanut butter bait. There is a bottom-entry live-catch trap that might work on gophers. After you get them in the trap, you can re-locate them or kill them.

You might try to engage Carl Spackler for ridding your grounds of those varmits . . . not saying he'll have any success at it, but sure would be fun to watch ;-)

A pair of traditional Macabee traps work well most of the time. You attach a wire attached to a stick (preventing a gopher from pulling the trap back down the hole and reminding you of the trap location) to the coil end. Press the spring loaded sharp pronged jaws open and insert one going both ways in the main tunnel which is usually less than a foot away sideways and down from the hole with the pile of dirt. You cover the exposed area with boards and dirt and wait a couple hours for a gopher to return to repair the damage. When its nose hits the trigger it gets gruesomely jabbed and squashed. You then have to open the trap up with all the gore so you need to be prepared for that. Of course if half your produce just got chomped off at the roots then some exploding guts might be just the ticket.

Found another way that works.Gophers cannot walk on water.Fill a bucket about 3/4 or so with water-Put some birdseed on top of the water-Put a piece of wood from the ground to top of bucket.They jump in to get a free meal and then realize they forgot their life vest.It works.

I am not sure what is making all these holes in my lawn, around foundation, in my gardens, etc.

Do both chipmunks and gophers dig holes. I'm putting gopher poison in the holes, but I sure don't see any reduction in the critters. Maybe I should start a new thread on this. They are feasting on all the sunflower seeds that my husband insists on putting in the bird feeder, but a ton fall on the ground, feeding all these critters. I need to find a better bird feeder that doesn't spill half the sunflower seeds son the ground for the critters to eat!!!!!!

Good idea. I'll do that. These critters are driving me crazy.

And now they are still digging up my tulip bulbs, lilly bulbs and now even a dahlia bulb.

Could also be moles or voles
