ariens mower runs rough then dies

model #911044 self propelled mower.

When I bought it used it ran fine. After a month or two, everytime I started it I had to prime it even if it was warm. Then it got worse - when mower would be running I would have to push primer three or four times and it would run until I shut it off. If not it would die. Then it went to having to keep primer held down fo it to run. Now it won't run. Tacumsche 5 1/2 hp. Any ideas? Greatly appreciated.

The gas is contaminated. Remove and thoroughly flush the fuel tank. Remove the carb bowl, you will likely find dirt in it. Be careful not to drop the gasket or let the inlet needle fall out of the bore as the float drops.
