To all of you who posted info. about your Mackissic chippers. It helped a great deal in my decision and I was able to get a used 12PT9, only about 4 yrs. old. I had an old Sears chipper before, so this one is a treat to use. It does a great job with anything I throw in it and does it fast. I like to shred straw for garden mulch and it's so much faster to do it with this machine and never clogs like the Sears model would if I put too much in at a time. I've been pruning trees and shrubs and it's so nice to clean up the mess so fast and nice not to have a burn pile growing like usual. It always felt like such a waste when I burned.

You were quite fortunate. Just out of curiosity, did the manuals come with the machine?

Yes, I was fortunate. I found it on Craigs List on the last day the ad was up and thought for sure it would be gone and almost didn't inquire about it, but I'm glad I did.

If you mean the papers stapled together at one corner, then yes, I got the manuals. I'd think with the prices they charge they could make better quality manuals.

I've just about finished shredding 2 bales of straw to use as mulch. One bale was a little too wet and slowed me down until I started mixing some dry straw in. We have some trees to prune yet, so it will be in use a lot. Then the big leaf maples will start dropping their leaves and I'll shred them too as long as it isn't pouring down rain. After that, it should be time to put it away for the winter.
