Sometimes the best buys are during the peak season. The large box stores may be willing to take a beating at the end of the season if they are over loaded with inventory but the independents usually are not in a position to discount. This can become a problem for them if there is a major change for the following model year.

Yep, you should be seeing a lot of sales aroune Labor Day and shortly after. Sears usually will reduce significantly to get rid of last years models, as will the rest of the bunch.

Here's the skinny on end-of-season lawn equipment prices straight from the lawn mower dept. guy at my local Lowe's. Lowe's will have a Labor Day newspaper ad that breaks the Thursday leading up to the Labor Day weekend, but the afternoon of that Thursday is when the store will do it's own pricing to move out it's local summer inventory so they can start with the winter products.

Two Springs ago I walked into this same Lowe's to by a new mailbox in mid-March and low-and-behold they had two brand new MTD (yes I know, MTD is not top shelf) snow throwers marked down from $599 to $200!!!
I bought one within a few minutes. Even if is an MTD, who cares at $200. It has been fine through two Great Lakes "lake effect snow" winters.

The great prices will be out there soon. Go around this week and start probing the sales staff. They'll spill the beans if you get the right person.

Thank you bev mech...I knew is was about that time. It was last year when I started in a Lowes and out front they had a 15 gal sprayer for $100...reg over $200. But could not remember exactly when it was....tks again.....DT

Lowes should call it there Sun faded water damaged it might all be there sale.
