stihl fs 80R

So I bought this fs 80 from a buddy for 10 bucks, and I having some carb. problems. Ill prime the bulb a few times, it will fire once, and then flood out. Take the breather off, and you can see the gas just continuously running into the engine. If I dont drain the gas back into the can, it will completely siphon the tank by morning. What do I need to do? I looked at carb kits, but I have no idea what carb it has, of if it even needs it. The trimmer is probably no more than 5 years old... Help??

I have an FS85 that I bought off eBay a few years ago. Same machine, basically, with a different shaft.

First thing I did was to buy a maintenance manual and parts book off eBay. You should do the same. Depending on your serial number, there are several different carbs they used over the years. All are pretty generic OEM carbs, but you obviously can't get a rebuild kit without knowing which you have.

Alternatively, you might well be able to buy a new replacement carb off eBay. I'm not 100% sure, but I'll bet they're all interchangeable -- that they didn't change mounting or throttle linkages or anything when they changed carbs. Worst case if it's wrong? Resell it.

Once you get it running, you'll love it.

I have an old FS120 that I was having the exact same problem with. I took the carb off, went to the Stihl dealer, who told me the carb was $118.....but he could rebuild it for $15 labor plus parts. He said they're rebuildable 90% of the time. I went this route, picked it up the next day, bolted that sucka on and it fired right up. Haven't had a problem since then.....
