Craftsman Door Opener

I just replaced the drive/worm gear on my opener but now there a very loud vibrating sound coming from the unit. I took it apart again and noticed that the shaft from the chain sproket to the plastic gear has some play in it. Is this the source of the vibration? What part would i need to go buy to replace this.

I assume you bought the 41A2817 Gear Kit from Chamberlain. I just replaced the worm and sector in one of my two Craftsman GDO's.

Kit comes with bushings, but I didn't need them. If your bushings are worn you can then replace. If the shaft is worn, you have to go back to Sears to purchase a new shaft through their web site. At that point, it might be cheaper to go with another opener.

Also, make sure you have chain tensioned according to spec. I believe spring is to be compressed to 1.75"
