Karcher power washer gfci pops

I have an electric Karcher power washer #210plus. The power cord has a GFCI as part of the plug. Recently the gfci has been popping frequently. I would reset it and it would run for a little while, then pop again. Now it will not reset.

I tried several different sockets/circuits, so I am pretty sure it's in the washer, not the house wiring.

Could the plug be replaced with a standard 3 prong, and simply pluged into a gfi outlet?( all of my outside outlets are gfi.)

The units are so cheap that I wonder if it would make sense to send it out for repair/ replace the plug and cable assembly.

Given the reliability of GFI's in general, if it is poping, is that a pretty sure indication of an internal problem in the unit itself?

Is there an easy way to check the function of the GFI?

Thanks

Frank
