my friends have one....its belt drive so it doesnt have much power...also the gears are off. i would go with troy-bilt...ive got a pony and its awesome..get the honda engine tho...the tecumseh lays out weird. a troybilt horse with the many speed options sounds good for you...they're worth the money.

Thanks for the information. We are a little leery of Troy-bilt, though--wasn't the company bought out by MTD a few years ago? MTD doesn't have a very good reputation.

cub cadet is no where close to the company it was before mtd bought them. the troybilt rototillers and log spliters have not been changed in anyway since they were garden way. Cub cadet was bought out by MTD as well.....we used to own a mtd cub cadet mower. it didnt even come close to the old cub we had.....spent more in repairs then. i would go with troybilt tillers, even tho they are mtd

Yetty's right, Cub Cadet is owned by MTD also.
The Troy-Bilt rototillers are still very good machines. They were changed very little when MTD bought Troy-Bilt, unlike most of their other machines like lawnmowers.

Oh, Troy-Bilt tillers also carry a limited lifetime warranty.

If you want VERY good rototiller, BCS is the way to go. Their products are amazing. With their rototiller, there are NO belts at all. All gear driven. Plus you can get different attachments like a brush hog, snowblower, etc. They're quite costly, but worth every cent.

I had a 3 HP Bear Claw tiller for 34 years. It engine drives a belt to the chain drive. I use it about 3 or 4 hours a year until I got a new rear tine MTD brand. Haven't had no problems out of either. But, how much do you use one? For me the cheapee's work just fine. I would watch for a sale or try to local paper for used.
