I haaaaate to be the bearer of bad news, but about everything is cast china now. So even it it is assembled in the usa it probably orginated in china. Thank the EPA, the NFTA, and outsouring that started back in the 60's. your job may soon be going over seas. I figure one day the USA will be LCA???

There is a big difference between US or Japan companies engines make in China. They still have to meet the Company standard. They do have quality control.

Problem is if it is a Chinese company. Then there will be no whistle blowers and quality control.

I am so disappointed when I saw Craftsman tillers all change to those with Chinese engine ( look like the All Power stuff). They used to be using B & S Intek engines. Even they might be Chinese make, at least it is controlled by B&S.

rcmoser, I don't see how you can blame EPA and NAFTA for work going to China. EPA only regulates the final product emissions. To the best of my knowledge they have no country of origination policies.

NAFTA only deals with trade between US, Canada and Mexico. Neither China nor any other countries are signatories to NAFTA. NAFTA does have some country of origin clauses but again, they only deal with the three signatories.

Work is going to China and elsewhere because companies can make a better profit by doing that. When they can make more somewhere else, they will do that.

I'm not trying to argue, I just want to keep the non-US debate to the facts.

Don't you love to have a political forum here?!!!!

Like it or not, times have changed. You may not like some of the inferior products coming from other countries, but the fact is, if those products were made here in the US you, and many others, probably couldn't afford to purchase them.

I bought my first color TV in 1974 at a cost of $500, a US made Curtis Mathis. Adjusted for inflation that TV would cost over $2500 dollars today. In 1975 I bought a 4x4 Chevy PU for 5k, adjusted for inflation that price would be over 20k today. Can one buy a 4x4 Chevy for 20k today?

What is different now than back in the seventies and sixties and fifties is that we are no longer one of the very few countries that have the capital, the education, and the resources to produce manufactured goods. Now, many countries have the labor and the technical ability to produce consumer goods at a much cheaper cost than the US.

ok let's seen ask all the people that lost there jobs at wangler and coleman cause it was cheaper to move, build a factory, hire mexican labor, and still get a free ride over the boarder to sell the now cheap made inferior products, (we won't talk about wally world slave labor cloths) all for the company ceo to make his multimillion dollar bonus. I wonder why nobody can find out the names and where they live? they probably have AKA names just like the IRS.

All I can say about china is "somebody educated taught them everything" and beings they don't have to honor any patents the can copy anything they make and undercut the very company that taught them how to do it with their 75 cents and hour labor. so how can you compete with that? I sure don't want to make .75 cents an hour again, yes again.

That is the problem of capitalism where companies find the cheapest way to produce the goods. Both Republican and Democrats do nothing to stop the flow of manufacturing overseas particular Bush let our most valuable asset.....High tech electronics and software slip away under his watch. BUT the Democrat is not doing any better. Now you have obummer doing what ever it takes to help the unions....SEIU and others, spreading the wealth. As if we are not competative enough, put in the union demanding high wages, long term benefits and all. This is going to put the last nail on the coffin.

We are spending tons of money protecting the other countries while they use their money to help their own industries instead of spending on defense. In turn their company compete unfairly with us.

Bush let the high tech went to China, Companies even sent expert over to train people over in China to start the manufacturing there!!! How nice.

Before you conservatives start jumping on me. I am a conservative, but I am not going to stand behind Bush NO MATTER WHAT!!!! Where is Reagan when we need him right about now?!!! Bush is dumb, because of him, we get obummer. This is our punishment!!!!

I still say we need a political forum here!!!!

    Peace!!!

Are the 179cc engines made by LTC? Are the smaller Briggs made in China?

Ok lets blame bush for everything WW1 WW1, black sunday in the 20's, S & L bank failures in the 80's, Vetnam even when he avoided it. ECT.... I hate to tell you bush was was in grade school when second wave was going down, you are right both demo and repub got some kickback money, ( just amazed me how a polickation can become a multi-million on gov. pay????? am I missing something??? Could it be kickbacks and not paying taxes????? or there special interest programs???

electronic steal started carter's, ronnie's, maybe before that? Mr. clinton let them (not clear what he got from china, but he got something?, anybody remember the high tech scandal in NM???.

Some of us need to get over bush he's gone, but the crooks are still in office. our present gov. has spent more than all the pres. for the put togather and they haven't been in office a year yet. I know your going to say bush caused it, well he didn't spend a dime or start any wars without both elect demo and repub in the house and congress, he's gone but they are still in office???

Don't blame bush for the fanny mae or mac the demo's blocked any reforms cause they were getting big time kickbacks and some repub also. The problem is we will NOT vote the CROOKS out in those states mostly upper east and cala. where all the electorial votes are. wake up before we are all doooooomed. What this have to do with lawn equipment? soon you may not be able to afford lawn equipment cause you tax rate will be 60% plus. Ok that's if for me on this. OK quite cheering and jumping up and down!!!!!!!.

In contrary to everyone's believe, I don't blame Bush on the bank crisis. It was because ACORN and those community organizer that push to give sub-prime loans to those that cannot affort it. This get the snow ball rolling. Then the greedy home buyers and investors start taking advantage of the sub-prime loans to buy houses with no down and money back on closing. This work for a little while until the price get so high that nobody can affort it and the price when stale. Price don't go up, they can't refinance to a fix rate, interest go up and they just walk away from the house. The bank got stuck with all the foreclosure and failed.

Bush actually tried to stamp the tide early on but the democrat stop it thanks to Barnley Frank!!!!

Job export to other countries has been going on for decades. But the high tech outsource is mostly under Bush's watch. I was in high tech for 27 years, I see that happened. Because of the boom in the late 90s, companies start out sourcing to India, China etc. Bush did nothing to stop it. High tech is not just jobs, it is our national security. Our weapontries are so much more advanced not because they are more powerful. It is because of the precision, artificial intelligence. It is all electronics and software. Don't think the millitary electronics are different. We use the same technologies. I designed the Land Worrior soldier system. We use Intel Penteium III as the brain at the time. Modules communicate with USB and Firewire!!! Sound familiar? Millitary electronics are just common everyday stuff. We trained China and India the know how and help them set up the manufacturers!!!! Bush did nothing!!!! Software jobs are mostly disappeared and will never come back. Now, high tech class in school always cancel because not enough enrollment. That is not the way to keep our country strong.
