I've got no idea what one would be worth, but I've got the 8 horse motor on mine and find that it needs every bit of that power for chipping. I've seen the 5 horse model run and it really drags down when the branches are put in.

I have the 5 hp Tomahawk and agree with artey that it's way underpowered. It clogs way too easily. On the other hand, if you want to buy it, it is a fine machine, easily worth many hundreds! Norm

I have had the 10hp Tomahawk chipper/shredder for about 1 and 1/2 yrs. I paid $550 for it new. It does a good job on branches up to approx. 3 inches.

The 5hp Tomahawk will give plenty of aggrevation trying to chip 2 inch branches. On the other hand, it's the only chipper shredder I've ever used: they all might be like that.

I purchased the Tomahawk Junior (which I believe you are talking about) new in 1984 for around $500 bucks. I still have it, still use it every year and I have only replaced the anvil, everything else is still fine.

I picked this up on Saturday and ran it for a while. It is in very good condition and $250 sounds reasonable. I was able to handle good size limbs. I think this size unit will work for me. I have many trees which I cut and chop into firewood. I tend to cut bigger limbs into log size to burn, but am usually left with much brush to dispose of. Just relocating it to the woods is a big pain. This unit should help out..and I wont have to but wood chips any more.

I still need to find a manual and was wondering if there is a way to set to produce larger chips. It is creating some that are a bit smaller than I prefer, but can certainly live with.

I've got a Tomohawk Jr. in the shop right now with a 3.5 hp engine on it. I am having a heck of a time getting one of the set screws out so I can reverse the flailing blades. It runs well. Murray got the Shredder line when the original troy bilt went under. Now Murray has gone under and Briggs has picked it up. Unknown about parts though at this given time. I heard some Murray stuff was tough to get and will be for some time until Briggs gets it sorted out. Best of Luck, Patrick

Starting to think about this unit again now that we are at the tail end of winter. I have been searching for parts now that I own it and was looking for screens that may be a bit larger as far as holes go. I must have a screen on there that is producing 1/2" chips or even smaller.

I was wondering if it is possible to remove this screen and run without one...would this produce larger chips?

I could live with 1/2" chips..but perfer ones a little larger.

Anyone?

I have a Troy-bilt Tomahawk Model 15028. The Tecumseh HS40-55568k engine, I thought was a 4 hp model. The reason I have the model numbers so handy is the engine blew and I have been checking around for another. The 2 7/8 shaft appears to have a diameter of aproz 31/32" so I guess its really a 1" diameter. The keyway is 1/4" wide.

Maybe it is a 5 hp model. I have no manual, since it was my fathers. I like it, although it seems underpowered when chipping branches.

The Yard machine model at Home Depot seems to take up a lot of space. I probably will order a B&S 5.5 hp engine for about $290 plus tax if I can convince myself I am order the right engine.

Clean the engine up really well and take down the model and serial numbers. Mine were stamped on the cover, another possibility is a sticker.

I think both Tulsa Emgine Warehouse and Northern Tools have FAC sheets on how to order a engine. The Small Engine Warehouse site is not as good as the two others, but it does seem to have the engine I need for my chipper.

I have an old Tomahawk that fits our old Horse TroyBilt Tiller. Is this the same Tomahawk y'all are talking about? I need parts for it and wanted to know if this is the one and same. Thanks
