I use 5/16 inch clevis pins and 3/32" Hair Pin Clips. I was going to use a nut and bolt assembly instead, but the helpful assistant in the Home Depot hardware department suggested that I stick with the clevis pins even though they break. He explained that these are designed to break when you hit rocks so that the tiller's shaft doesn't get damaged. If you are breaking new ground with your tiller, you will want to keep a nice supply of pins and clips on hand and expect to stop and fix occasionally when the pin snaps in two. I purchased the pins in 50pcs quantity last time and the bag lasted me through the year. I till on a regular basis and often break new ground since I purchase plants to multiply and sell off the increases, so I'm continually breaking new ground with my craftsman rear tine tiller.
