Focus on the wet plume of water in the soil and how far out and deep it goes. It needs to reach roots about two feet in diameter and 12" deep for most plants. Look up the plants you will plant and see what the average root ball will be at maturity. Time you system to give that every three days. At least that is a start and adjust to fit weather conditions.
