Garden Way/Troy-Bilt went bankrupt a couple of years ago, and sold MOST of their equipment lines to MTD, so the "Troy-Bilt" you called is really just MTD. As much as people complain about MTD (myself, included) they DID improve the availability of a lot of parts for T-B. (Well, they changed all the part numbers, but it seems everybody does that in this industry.)

For a reason I forget (Safety lawsuit? Anti-trust regulation?), their chipper lines were later sold to Murray, which doesn't seem to have done anything with them, and they, too, went under recently, IIRC.

I, too, have an "orphaned" real Garden Way Troy-Bilt chipper vac (not as old as yours- only 12 y.o.) and I was able to buy a new bag assembly for mine on eBay (for around half of the original list price, too). So, used (Craig list, etc.) or eBay is about your only bet (unless you're good with a industrial sewing machine...).

I sewed two cloth potato bags together. Had to cut the bottom out of one and when sewed together made a long bag. Had wife sew a draw string in the open end to attach to the dishcharge side of the shredder. It works great for shredding leaves. I wouldn't try it with limbs. Also wear a good dust mask.

There is a eBay dealer who makes upgraded bags that fit the new MTD-made Troy-Bilt chipper-vacs. He also offers repair services (new zippers, etc) for bags so he might be willing to make a new bag to fit old Garden Way Troy-Bilt machines (or anything else) if he had the old bag, especially if he thought there is a market for the "orphaned" machines. (Prices are a bit more than two potato bags sewned together, however -g- ).

The plastic zipper went on the bag for my 1994 Troy-Bilt Chipper Vac. After looking in vain for a replacement bag, I found "Get There! Designs" on the web. They do "heavy duty sewing" and zipper repair or replacement. They replaced the zipper with a metal one for $18.00 + $6.00 shipping, and did a great job. For $24.00 my $450 Troy-Bilt is once again running. I cut the cable tie, removed the plastic elbow and washed the bag before shipping it out. I am happy to join the discussion of this illustrious group of Troy-Built Chipper/Vac owners/enthusiasts. There is a joy in owning a finely engineered product, which still has sufficient material strength and was crafted in the USA. Every time I use it I think of the fellow Americans that worked their shifts in the factory making my shredder, clocked out after their shift and went to their children's Little League game...somewhere in upstate New York. Picking up leaves is not a chore, rather a trip down memory lane. If we still had those and similar jobs in this country, life would be happier in these United States.

I am looking for a hose adapter housing (with or without a hose) for my Model 47035 (1996 vintage), part number 1768650 (which is a part in the Vacuum Hose Attachment Kit (Part No. 1768675.) This is the fiberglass/plastic piece that attaches to the deck, to which the vacuum hose is attached.

If you might know of a source, please let me know.
