I moved into a house that had 2 to 4 layers of wallpaper in most of the rooms. After weeks of using the sponge and bucket method, I started looking for a wallpaper stripper. I found the Wagner wallpaper steamer at a big box store. It was about 50 bucks, so I figured i would give it a try. If it didnt work, I would return it. That thing works great. My wife and i finished the hall and stairs in a couple of hours. Had 2 layers. It would have taken us several days without it.
I cant remember the model number. It came with 2 steamers, a large and small one. The only drawback is the time it takes to heat the water, about 20 mins. Also be careful when setting down the steamer, it can leak out really hot water.

I have a very old Wagner stripper (don't know the model number) and it works great. The only problem I have ever had stripping was when I ran into a house that had 5 layers of paper and the first one was a very thick underliner on plaster - that took a long time and a little extra effert. When I finish with the stripper I have always put in a cup of white vinegar, filled it with water and let it heat up and steam for a few minutes just to help keep it purged of chemicals.

I have a 10 year old black & decker that works reasonable well. Scoring the wall paper with a roller helps with vinyl or painted wall paper.
