I tried their site a few days ago and found the same thing with that part number but then discovered that it also said "not available" somewhere else in the process. It gave the same message for other parts shown on the site.

If they cannot provide the parts, they really should take this off their site.

I went to the site this AM and tried to order it again. It still came back with the "part not available" message but also offered to find a store that might have it. That link did not work but it then gave a phone number for Sears. I called it and was told that the part is no longer being made and no one makes the compatible part either.

When I asked who made the unit, they told me that Ryobi made it.

I was surprised that they knew who built it and would give out that information, but figured I would ask anyway.

Their only suggestion now was that I buy a new unit. I am not going to do that because I have a very nice Porter Cable sander that works fine.

Would you favor a law that would force all the manufacturers to stock spare parts for a much longer time than they do now....????
Or would this proposed law just make things worse ??

I am in this situation with a Black and Decker drill, the part is available, but frightfully expensive....

I don't know when my sander was built but I cannot see why these manufacturers cannot at least sell the "obsolete" parts to a supplier.

Of course, if they did, the sale of new units would decline.

The only advice that the Sears Parts Center gave me was to "buy a new sander".

Not much chance of my doing that, especially when I already own a better sander that will last far longer and probably have parts available if and when I ever need them.

I think I have the same sander; sometimes the switch can be taken apart and cleaned;I've actually made parts to repair a switch ;or take the switch to a good electrical supply house,appliance repair station,even a tool repair outfit that does a lot of different brands,and ask for something similar.this is were you have to be creative;if you know what the switch does,and know the rating,you're halfway through the repair......Other than that you'll have to live with a single speed....................this is why I will never buy aSears brand of power tool ,for they change manufacture's so often;they can't keep a handle on their parts supplier's. their older tools(All metal) were made very well,and probbably last a lifetime,but here too, if you need a certain part that's no longer made;such as a switch,or a belt drive,you have to research it................and be creative.Bearings are pretty much standard,but gears,and armatures are so specially made,once they're gone,that's usually it for the machine,unless it can be had for a reasonable price.But a switch can usually be repaired,or even adapted,with a little ingenuity...............good luck

I don't buy their power tools either and for the reason. This one was given to me so I figured I could get a part and start using it. The price was right.

I had thought about repairing it or trying to find something similar but larger and could then make it fit. It is just a "Hi/Low" switch so must not be too complicated.

i have the same polisher with a bad trigger switch probably the the hi/low switch is also bad.

If i could locate a switch the hi/low has a solution because its more generic and one could be adapted. The switch is many time can be taken apart and repaired but mine is past that stage.

Don't give up !!! I'm still looking for watch case or body for the Bulova Accutron that went to the moon with our astronauts. Porte Cable dicontinued their switches for much more recent Multitool. I guess they figure these are disposable and you can buy another from them which I never will. I only got to use it on 3 occations. Is this right?

Do you still have this and do you want to sell? Price?
