I suspect once you spread it out, it will cool off. No doubt a nice soaking with the hose will help, too.

If you are really worried, give it a few days to finish cooking. In the meantime, consider making some compost tea with some of it.

Rather than call it compost, perhaps 'material undergoing composting' might be more accurate.

Stuff is compost when:
Very dark brown in color, almost black
Can't recognize ingredients.
Slight earthy smell is the only odor.
Temperature is normal ambient, not raised.

Since their definition of 'compost' does not seem very accurate, next time when purchasing ask what standards it meets.

Yes, too hot! Compost that is still heating up, and/or has a "manure" smell, is not good for your plants. It can actually rob them of nitrogen, as the bacteria use nitrogen in the composting process. It sounds like this stuff needs more than just a few days, more like weeks, with regular turning.

If the "compost" is still producing steam and feels hot and smells like manure (that ammonia like odor) it is still actively composting and is not ready to be put on the garden. Compost that goes on the garden should be cool to the touch and smell like good, rich earth. That it smells like manure means it is gassing off excess Nitrogen.

Well, nuts. That's what I figured but me being me, I mixed it in with my veggies. The tomatoes don't look happy but everything else looks OK. Anything I can do now to help the situation?

Keep is wet or at least do not let it dry out completely.
I know a natural gardener who use coffee waste(he got 2 dump truck loads from me) that was not completely composted. He did not cut it in, like I did last Fall.His squash are having a time, but the tomatoes, peppers & bean are growing like wild fire on a windy day.
He use green horse manure as a side dress one year & laughed when I told him some of the post on green manure usage on this site. No one died, not his extended family or his 20 tomato plants.
