Snapper Comet HV

Hi All,

I ususally stay over in the lawn mower forum but...I picked up an old 28" Comet HV with the 8 hp B&S engine a few weeks ago for $75. Guy said it wouldn't stay running so I checked it out and engine had excellent compression, oil looked good, no rust but I did notice the left rear bearing was well worn. Still I think I can change that out pretty easily. So I loaded it up and brought it home. Pulled the carb, cleaned it thoroughly and much to my wife's amazement, it started on the first pulled. So I took a couple of victory laps around the house. Oh, and even with the dull blade, it mowed surprisingly well and had lots of torque to get up my hills.

I'm going to replace both rear bearings and seals as well as the driven disk (rubber wheel is missing a few chunks) but I my model number doesn't appear on the Snapper website. It's a 2880W made under ownership by Fuqua. Can anyone shed some light on what I have?

Also, can I convert it to a mulcher?

Thanks,

Jarrall
