When i was in texas last summer, i saw two plants that went to seed. I have/had no idea what they are.

one is a thistle that when i found it, the seed head was the size of a tennis ball and so sharp. owwww. I love thistle, for the birds, finches just love the seed. I live in california and planted it last week and it already sprouted. How can i gain knowledge of the types of thistle from texas. I was close to the city of denton.

I did get another plant seed as well and should take a picture of the leaves and seeds in the baggie to gain the species there too. I may just plant it and then when it blooms take a pic.
