WANTED: When is the best time for seed trading?

I am taking the plunge in more ways than one this winter. I'm retired, this is my first GW question/post and my first year to winter sow! My daughters co-worker got me lurking this summer, so I signed up in December, so I am actually a retired one month old!! I have read and read and read and I am hooked. My problem thus far in staring on winter sowing is that I haven't been able to secure seed trades with only having basics and not much of them. I can't seem to find any wanted posts for my ordinary seeds. Is there a better time, like earlier in the fall, to be finding seed trade deals??

Thanks for any seed trading infor/tips/etc that you can provide.

Welcome to WS and Gardenweb! You can trade year round, I think the fall is VERY busy (I traded for the first time this year), but as people start getting their catalog orders soon, I'll bet there will be another busy time.
The post you just made is a good start, it lets folks know that your out there, wanting to trade! You can post a list of things you are looking for, and many times people will offer trades, or even send you seeds for a SASBE (self-addressed stamped bubble envelope). Trading is so much fun (and can get addictive!), and Gardenweb folks are super-friendly (especially on the wintersowing boards!!!).
You can watch for free seed offers, and "newbie" offers (there are some on this board!), people really don't mind sending seeds, we all love to share!
I would love to trade with you, do you have any of those French Vanilla marigolds left? Or petunias? I could send you some different perennials and annuals, I have a few seeds of different kinds, and I will have to check on the hardiness, I am in zone 6.

Welcome to Winter Sowing. I started to do some serious trading a few months ago. I actually offered seeds for SASBE, but received a lot of offers for trades as well. I still have lot left, you can have them for SASBE or you can trade.

Welcome! I just started out about a year ago and have been trading ever since. I think the boards are always busy with trades since we are all in different seasons. Although I did notice less trading traffic in mid summer when we were all outside tending to our beloved plants. I would suggest to you to get some seeds of something that is a little more rare that you would like to have too -- take some seeds for yourself and trade the rest away. Or you might try the round robins- on the round robin boards, where you can send in a few pack of seeds and you get different seeds back. Some are ones you wanted and those you don't want you can always trade. Before long you will be overrun with seeds, and beware it is rather addicting.

I would love to trade with you for some of your hyacinth bean seeds. I tried them this year for the first time and I just love them! I would be delighted to put together a nice big package of seeds for you for SASBE. Most of which are great for winter sowing because I started mine that way. Please let me know if there is anything in particular you are looking for, if I have it I'll be happy to send it along.
