Tongue and groove planks

When choosing to do a tongue and groove planked ceiling, how do you determine what orientation to run the boards? Do you run them perpendicular or parallel with the longest run of the room?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I was thinking that you do usually run the length of the room but in this case I will be using this T&G for a 12' X 20' space and I can get the T&G in 12' lengths so there wouldn't be any seams, which I do like the thought of. I wasn't sure if this was an absolute meaning you have to run with the length or it would be unacceptable.

Hello Josh, typically you run it the length of the room. Another factor is, do you want seams to show.

So what kind of paint to you use on this type of ceiling then to give it that finish?

I would think that just a gloss finish would give you this effect

If I want to do this type of ceiling in my den which is 20 by 22 is it possible to find pieces large enough so that there are no creases? If not, how would you lay these out? Thank you so much.

Is this T&G or ship lap? It looks as if it has a shadow between the boards which steers me towards ship lap with a 1/8th spacing. What is the width of the boards? Love the home btw... Nice work! :)
