Tray method

Has anyone ever tried ws their seeds in a regular tray (72 individual plant sections)? I figure then the plants will already be in their own "container" and I think it would be easy to plant them. I wouldn't try this with the tiny seeds though. Either sit the 72 things (all one unit or you can separate by six-packs) in the solid tray that you've put drainage holes in...or sit all of them in one of those trays with all of the holes in it (plastic gridlock tray or whatever you'd call it). I had bought a 3-pk of the 72-cell container at Lowe's one time. Each unit consists of twelve 6-packs, solid (no holes on the bottom) tray and plastic lid. It's made by Ferry-Morse. It's not what I'd call cheap...about $8 for a 3-pk. So if one seed is sown in each "cell" (for lack of a better word), you'd end up with 216 plants...assuming they'd all come up. I figure paying $8 for that and buying a pack or two of seeds and potting soil is still cheaper than buying that many plants at a nursery. I'm not going out and buying a bunch of those and will only use what I already have and sow most of my seeds using milk jugs. I just thought the pack method would be nice for those seeds that you are fussy about. I would think that they'd be better for some kinds of plants that resent being transplanted. Just a thought.
