Susan, I have leaves down for Granger's Carnival, Buckeye Love's Caress and Kentucky Gooseberries, so if they make it, and you're still looking for them, you can have some of my babies.

    Thank you, Vikki! :)

I will post as soon as the box arrives- and goes back out! I'm excited!! :)

    Everyone!

The box went out today so Deb be on the look-out. It may be there tomorrow.

Terri-Pat said she would send leaves from 'Firebird' so I omitted those. Hers would be fresher than mine.

I have two vintage varieties-'Amythest' and'Admiral' in the box but I only marked one as vintage. I think. But I wasn't going to unpack everything to check so just make a note whoever takes them.

Kaity wants minis and semis so I tried to include two leaves with the ones I packed. That way if Deb wants one there will be one to share with Kaity. (Unless she decides to keep them both herself!) ;)

    Susan,
I will let you know which streps I have from our last RR. I checked on them last night. Two are growing gangbusters and one is just sitting there, sulking.

Okay-I think I got everything and everyone straight,

Deb, let us know when the box arrives and what you chose. I tried to pick some unusual varieties for you!

    Deb,

I'm glad you liked the varieties I sent and happy you got some you really wanted. It's getting very cold here very quickly, too! I think we're in for a bad, bad winter.

    Kaity,

Let's us know when you get the box and what you take!

So which one was your 'top-of-the-list' violet?

    Linda

Patricia: I need your address to verify I have the right one. I am trying to print a label and USPS says the one I have is a "non-deliverable" address....

Linda: It was Planet Kid! Although I'm really excited about Jolly Mel and didn't even know it was on my list ;-)

Nevermind, got it figured out. Here is the tracking #. Expected delivery is 10/10. Have Fun!

    Kaity,

I saw 'Planet Kid' on your wish list and included it. I'm glad it made it to you. If it does not do well, let me know and I'll replace it. I got 'Jolly Mel' at convention this year. The crown variegation is gorgeous. I am finding I like the 'Jolly' series more and more.

Your set-up is great but I think you will need to be adding to it soon! ;)

    Linda

I agree with you on the Jolly Series! Every one i have is a perfect rosette.... Which I like because I like things orderly:-) Thank you for including Planet Kid!

I've been eyeing up Planet Kid myself lately too. It's always exciting to find one up on the top of your wish list!

    Everyone,

I think it has gotten colder more quickly than we thought. There have been problems with frozen leaves. Make sure not to leave the box sitting outside after delivery and maybe add a heat pack or extra packing. Hopefully, as the box gets sent to more southerly states, this won't be a problem. Keep me up-dated, everyone!

I guess I am next so will be on the lookout for it!

    Kaity,
Nice set up! I somehow missed the post! I like the mason like jelly jars your using! I would love to see your set up now that you've done a few RR's! :)

I'm glad this is going good. The weather really changed so quickly in Chicago. We have had frost a few times. I just received a package from Travis the other day- it arrived in perfect condition. The box was lined in regular house insulation, and there wasn't one mushy leaf! I hate insulation- but it works well during cold temps.

Wishing Everyone lots of blooms and plantlets!

    Thanks for hosting this Linda!

The box is here. Everything came in pretty good shape and only had to throw out a couple of leaves that were starting to rot. I think the insulation does help to keep everything fresher as there was very little damage to this box.
I will post tomorrow what I'm keeping and the new tracking number to Susan in S. Carolina.

I'm so curious Chiqui- what type of insulation? We had so many problem boxes on different swaps- multiple boxes, all having the same problems- rotting leaves! Boxes that lose half the leaves, and people really get cranky- blaming the last person who shipped the leaves because they looked OK- and then rotted later! What material is working that helps protect leaves/plantlets to survive? I started to think we were losing stuff just because of temp changes? Warm to cold/shipping- possibly more rot than usual?
But, if boxes are still going around- and making it ok.. then it's packing material that can prolong shipping! I just received a box from Travis- he added just plain house insulation, is that what is necessary to make the RR's successful in the drastic temp changes?

I'm trying so hard to figure out what's going on this trading season. :)
It's never been so bad before for leaf loss. Serious brown mush! LOL!!

    Deb

I got frozen leaves because their was tissue type paper in the box and a few packing peanuts . So I put reg house insulation in the box . that protects it from hot and cold.Guess that worked

I had to change the box before I sent it to Chiqui because it had been flattened - that sure didn't last long . . . Yes, it was house insulation.

I also had to replace the box because it was a little banged up but there was no damage to the contents. The box is lined with fiberglass insulation all around and it did keep everything fresh. Of course, I am in S. Florida so cold weather is not an issue. If anything, heat would be more of an issue.
This is what I kept: Leaves of Glenna, Grape Glory, Painted Silk & Shirl's Hawaiian Lei, two baby plants of Lilac Fanfare & Ruffled Skies, Brown Beauty episcia, & primulina Aiko & Beige.
This is the new tracking number for Susan in S. Carolina: 9405503699300400729746. Hope this box arrives in good shape and thanks to all who took part in this RR and shared their plants.

Looking forward to getting the box! It's been chilly here this week, so hoping the insulation will do its job and everything will make it safely.

I am working on a shelf-reorganization project to make room for all the round robin and trade things I have accumulated in the past month...better get busy... lol

Dh and I had a dinner conversation on insulation. (I know-exciting!!!) He said that styrofoam insulation would probably keep the leaves the best. He occasionally works in the warehouses where the mail is processed so he knows about those conditions. He is also familiar with mailing violets and what we need for that to be successful. Maybe we can experiment with that in the spring.
