This looks like Joe Pye Weed to me..

It reminds me of Blue Vervain which is a variety of Verbena officinalis.

A closeup of the flowers and leaves would help, but might it be Verbena hastata?

Another vote for eupatorium - Joe Pye Weed, short stalk.

If the leaves are the same as Veronicastrum virginicum-I would say it is definitely a Veronicastrum since their leaves are somewhat unique. Could it possibly be Veronicastrum virginicum "Lavendelturm"?

Love your flowers..which Bee Balm plant is that you have planted up front? It's medium hgt. my husband would like that.
You had posted pictures of the most beautiful astilbe plants one time..what variety/color were they? Did you buy the seed or starter plants? I would love to have that exact color.

Looks like Veronicastrum virginicum 'Fascination'to me. I'll include a link below~

Thanks everyone for the help. I believe that it would be the Veronicastrum Virginicum Lavendelturm. Well, this will be an addition to the Veronicastrum Virginicum Alba and the Rosea which I started from wsing about 6 years ago. :O) Sweet!!

Pippi,
I don't remember the name of that Bee Balm, and even if I did, I can't really recommend it as a great garden plant other than for the flowers. It's being shovel pruned into a meadow garden in 2010. If you look closely at the leaves, they are full of powdery mildew and the insects have eaten them. As most fellow gardeners know, I am a leaf person and they have to have staying power all season long.

The Astilbes? Again - no name. :O) Sorry I'm not much help here, but I got the seeds from a friend's garden. Some folks have IDed them as being Pumilas, and others think they are Deutchland Astilbes.
