Happy to help, melboca:) The T table comes in several sizes (and colors!), so you can vary them for even more interest. I like the wood table you found, too. I think the rug should be big enough, but check the store's return policy just in case--you want something to warm up the space without overpowering it like the current rug.

preferably white to balance the Blue !

Now what am I doing with these 2 walls? The first is painted a warm grey the other the same dark blue. Totally open to painting another color.

What do I put on these walls? The first is angled and the second is very high. I do have a big double window so there is nice natural light that comes in during the day.

I like the freshness of the blue and white combination.

Did you ever consider moving the blue sofas against the light wall? Placing the chair against the blue, especially now that you have the white curtains. It will create the most balance for your dollars.

Wall paint options (ceiling and trim should be blue-toned white or gray for all but first option; same with all window treatments but those can have some orange elements):
1. Leave everything as is.
2. Leave the dark blue high wall in the angled photo and paint angled wall and rest of room blue-toned white or gray or very pale blue.
3. Paint the high wall blue-toned white or gray and all other walls the lightest blue that matches/compliments what's in the paintings.
4. Paint the walls in varying degrees of the blues used in the paintings, with the very high wall in the angled photo being the darkest blue.

Art options for angled photo:
1. Leave as is to highlight the architecture.
2. Add a work of art with more orange in it like my "I've Got Sunshine" painting (can't access it from my phone, but it's on my Houzz pro page in the Paintings section and at www.spkcreative.com).
3. Add a black and white photo of the both of you; triple matting with orange, blue and white in a silver frame (you can change the matting and frame if you change color schemes again).
4. Add a gray wood or silver metal wall sculpture.
5. Add orange, blue and gray or silver glass art.

curves curves curves! and some natural element! like Carolyn said :) your orange rug post is good- but i think there is something better out there. orange and yellow is where i would start also. take the rug out of there until u get some more color becuz it will be throwing your "eye" off until u get comfortable with more different color :) . i like melboca's wood table for your space also, but i would try to find one ROUND! asap!

This blue is such as strong color! I agree with adding some 'personal' touches to this room with patterns, textures to soften it up.

You're getting lots of wonderful advice from the pros. The predominant impression i have of the room is that it's screaming for some wood tones and natural elements. I love ghost chairs as well but check out these chairs as a possible alternative at the game table. They add wood tones and curves.

I found a rug I like that can be done in any custom color combination (pantone) from Jill Rosenwald. It takes 4 months but I feel if it's perfect then I'll wait. I also found a glass table I like. It's not round like you all suggested but it's a soft shape and a nice size at 39 x 39. It's all in one piece like a glass ghost table. Thoughts?

There are so many beautiful rugs available in all different price ranges that I wouldn't special order one. Rugs are so tricky that when I select a rug for a client, I frequently select 3 or 4 for the rug company to deliver to my client's home. They come and lay them out for us, and it's all too frequently that the one I thought would be best is not the one that looks best in the house.

I very much like the glass table and in fact used one recently on a job, I still think you need to bring some wood into the room, so I'd hold out for a wooden table. Keep looking. That's part of the fun! Or hire a Miami designer to help you.

Hi Carolyn, I showed my husband different modern wood tables and he doesn't like any of them. I still want him to like what I buy.

I would hire someone but I didn't think this was a big enough job for someone to want considering I'm keeping the sofa's & those paintings.

We certainly want your husband to be happy! Regarding a designer, many designers will work on small projects. Take a look at the Professional section (above) of houzz and you'll find some Miami designers. You could call two or three to see if they're available for consultations.

What kind of wood tables did you look at with your husband? Is there any particular kind of design he dislikes? I found some wonderful examples on Houzz product search. That is an easy way to look at a huge range of wood coffee tables. I love this one:

He basically repeals the wood type color. He is ok with a black wood but that defeats the purpose of trying to lighten the space.

Looking great, lots of color now. I love how the colors play up the colors in the paintings. They really look wonderful now. the arch lamp looks great. I have one of those from the 70s and love it, will be using it in my revamped family room.

Since you have the wood floor, use glass for the table, maybe with a wood base. Noguchi tables are pretty neat.

Looking good, melboca! Certainly ikwewe's suggestion of a flokati rug would bring oodles of texture into the space and would be very retro. But there are lots of very contemporary woolen weaves in cream that look fantastic also. Ah, the choices between retro and contemp. But you're certainly headed in the right direction and things are looking great! Somehow I want to throw a dab of yellow into things, just so it's not so predictable.

In fact, I think that's what I'm seeing that I'm concerned about. All the pillows are TOO neatly arranged, size and color wise. Melboca, try mixing them up a bit so that you have two white pillows next to one another. In fact, you could throw them all up in the air and put them back as they fall and it would be more interesting! You're almost there!

Carolyn- I feel the same way about the pillows! I should have taken a picture of what they showed me in the store. I'll try some different combos.

Any coffee table suggestions? Should I still be looking for round? I did take away the white end table and replaced it with a round glass one I had upstairs.

I of course love those fluffy white rugs! But will keep my options open.

Melboca, please turn the glass topped end table from upstairs around slightly so that the glass is nearer the person sitting there. I love your new arc lamp.

It's going to be tricky to have a round cocktail table with the sofa/loveseat combo. It almost calls out for a rectangular table. Ideally I like to see 18" between sofa and cocktail table and loveseat and cocktail table. I don't think a round one would meet the needs of the people at the far end of the sofa if it were placed close enough for the loveseat people to use. So I'd go for a rectangular table, even though I agree you need more curves in the room. It will better fulfill the requirements. I do not object to black wood. It's still wood.

Looking good:) Maybe a sheepskin rug with a glass or clear resin round or square table with a yellow bowl or vase?

I like that Noguchi Coffee Table, the size seems like it will work and it's on sale. Another bonus the base is black wood.

Nix that, I just read reviews that the base is unstable and the glass comes crashing down. I have a young daughter and 2 dogs so I can't risk that.

Lots of great ideas and inspiration, I love this rug and table for something a wee bit different. The table is wood and fiberglass, very forgiving on a childs head or an adults knee. The other table is all fiberglass and is available in gold as well, I love the shape on that one,

Thoughts on this coffee table? I saw it in the store and thought it might be interesting. It's very solid and weigsh160 pounds the dimensions are 35.5 x 35.5 and 15.5 high.

Melissa I like this table but I think colour would be better, did you choose a rug? First choose a rug, then the table. Depending on what you choose for a rug a table may or may not work, for example if you chose a rug with a center design, a coffee table that is glass would be better. The rug I suggested works with the tables I suggested. For this room, I like the my choice of rug, it anchors all the blue, allowing the art and the cushions to take the stage. There are many angles in the art and the room but also the art has some fluid shapes, I would like to see those echoed in a table. The large white one you had did not work for the room as well as a shaped table would.

I also think if you went with this suggestion or something similar you could paint the stairwall something different, perhaps the red? Not sure would need to see how they all relate.

How old are your kids? A heavy, hard to see glass table can be a hazard with toddlers. Don't be in a big hurry with the table. I agree, the rug should come first, then you can see how you use the space to figure out what size and shape table would work best for you.

I have 2 rugs coming, one Flotaki and another neutral one. I am shying away from bringing a blue rug back in as it draws from the couch and darkens the room back up.

I really do like the wood coffee table idea. But if it's been vetoed...what about some retro/regency style sort of thing? mifit- the built in is accented with silver so that's a definite accent color in that room. That wall is going to stay dark blue for some time since my husband just had it repainted lol. I posted a silver wood square table above that I have always liked from z gallerie not sure if anyone thought that was a good option. Here it is again.

Looks like you're doing great - I would do ghost chairs around the backgammon table if you love them. I don't love the choice of shutters. I'm sure it's extremely practical but doesn't quite seem as modern. Maybe solar shades, sillhouettes or luminettes from Hunter Douglas? Extra tall drapes even? Would also be softer and break up some of the stark feeling.

If hubby doesn't like wood tone, maybe white table or glass.

I would soften the blue on the wall it's very stark. I would pick up on the medium blue in the painting vs. the dark blue - it's kind of a sea blue. How about a textured wallpaper like a grasscloth in a lighter/medium grey blue?I think that would be awesome.

For a rug how about a flokati or something with a lot of texture to take away from that really stark feeling. It doesn't have to be very colorful - even cream/white but have more texture.

Styling of pillows - I think you have a few too many there :) I would do 3 on each sofa, one of each color and put them in order from the left to the center or the right to the center. Largest pillow on the outside, smallest on the inside.

Mona I am in agreement about the blue wall. I too think the med blue better. melboca do you have a light over the coffee table? How about suspending this over it?I like all the curves in the light and the polished nickel reads as silver. I would do this especially if the table is large and one color. I do like the table you posted, if you choose this one, then make the rug blue.

Hi, my husband just had that dark blue wall repainted. I did just add the arc lamp it's in the revised pic with my new pillows.

We live in South Florida and have no desire for a fireplace.
