Cheap Seed Alert!

Unless you're in PA or NJ, I'm sorry to get your hopes up, but if you're in an area that has a ShopRite market-check it out! The cheap seeds are out-5 packs for a dollar! They're the American Seeds & mostly common stuff, but it's still a cheap way to indulge until the trade seeds arrive in the mail!

Attwoods in Joplin, Mo. have their American seeds for 8 cents & all their Lilly Miller & Ferry Morse are 40 percent off. Man-o-man, this is not good news for a seed junkies budget!

Could you list if these are grocery stores or shopping?Nothing here yet,but then again, i don't know where to look.
    Thanks
    Carol

Attwoods is a Farm & Home store, they sell livestock supplies, fencing, a few clothes, boots, & in the spring they have baby chicks & a green house set up on the parking lot.

Thanks Lilly, that may be the same as our farm & fleet,i will check it out tomorrow.

ShopRite is a supermarket chain, I think the website is shoprite.com if you're looking for a list of locations

Attwoods is only in the south. Farm and Fleet is Blain's and they are only in IA, IL, and WI.

Don't forget to check your local Ben Franklin. Haven't been there lately (will stop by on the 7th), but they usually have seeds for about .10 a pack.

    Ben Franklin?
Now thats an oldie but goddie.
We have not seen a B.F. around these parts for years,do you really still have a B.F.store?
I used to love going there, are they the same as always? My kids used to love their double bubble gum, can't find that any more either.
Does youe B.F. have wooden floors? Oh, i am so jealous, please, tell me all about it.

Carol, I'm jealous of the Farm and Fleet! If you can't get it there, you don't need it! We have one, but it's about an hour away from here, and if I do go, I better save up for it! No way would I get out of there without breakin' the budget big time!

Rural King (don't know where else they are except Indiana) has the American Seeds for 15 cents. I asked DH if Lowe's (where he works) has cheap seeds. He said MORE SEEDS? Why do you need more SEEDS? hehehehe clueless! I'm going to Rural King tomorrow...it's a rather cheap addition, don't you think?

Our BF USED to be that kind of store, but it's morphed into a crafts store now.

We usually can find the American Seeds in Walgreens for 10/$1 and also Big Lots and/or Dollar Stores.

    As always, YMMV.

Rural King? That sounds cool! Where are they in Indiana? Do they sell stuff like Tractor Supply?

NONE of the dollar stores here do have a single seed display--NOTHING, neither does big lots.

    I dont get it.

As we came through Vinita, Oklahoma yesterday my husband commented on how early we were getting home. I said, "Well, maybe not that early." He said, "OK, where are you stopping?" Of course, at that point he really didn't have to ask, because he knew it was Atwoods. I told him that Atwoods had a brand of seed that was only 59 cents and no one in our town did. I was just looking for some annual flower seed so thought I would go with all of the cheap ones I could find. Well, did I ever luck out! The 59 cent seed was on sale for 8 cents a pack. I only bought 51. LOL

    Hi every one,
Yesterday was such a nice day,i went to Menards looking for seeds, they had Burpee seeds only,40% off, pretty much the same seed you see every where,so i only bought a couple of packs of,Gazania-sunshine mix, and two packs of Marigold-snowdrift.
Then i went to K mart hoping to buy some of Martha Stewarts seeds you all have mentionen, they had none, they did have Burpee, same old, same old.
Then i went to Wal Mart-no seed, but they did have Miracle grow potting mix-$9.99-for 2 cubic feet bages-no one else had any soil out yet,can you believe that? The nerve!
THEN,,,,,I stopped at Farm and Fleet-JACK -O -POT!!!!!!
    I bought:
    Sunflower-Double Dandy-2
    Sunflower-Ruby Eclips-2
    Sunflower-Paquito Colorado-2
    Morning Glory-Picotee Blue-2
    Morning Glory-Chocolate-2
    Columbine-Tequila Sunrise-3
    Maltese Cross-1 &
    China Rose-Angel Wings-1
    oh,and
    Lemon Cucumber-2
    Yep-Jack- O- Pot!
I bought these mostly for trades,as i have never grown sunflowers, but these looked really pretty.
Also, the Columbine-Tequila Sunrise lookes beautiful,on the package.
China Rose i will plant,it lookes pretty.
Maltese Cross,?????,emmmmm, not sure, i may plant this one also.
    Morning Glories-both-YES! Beatuful.
    Cucumber,i will plant,at least a couple.
White Marigolds i will plant,i love white.
    So, whata think guys,good?
Guess what i am doing today.
Oh,Oh, i for got to mention,i also stopped at the $ store, and bought some shoe boxes, some aluminum baking trayes, very deep,4 inches as a matter of fact,no lids, but thats ok, i bought some 2 gallon baggies, and some one gallon baggies.
    WOOOO WHOOOOO.

Dollar Tree will be having the ten centers real soon!

There is a good thread listed below that we are tracking the seeds in already. Hopefully it can help someone out!

Here is a link that might be useful: The Seed Tracker...

We don't get seeds at our Dollar Tree here, what kind do they sell?

Sheesh, my Walmart charges $10.50ish for those 2cft bags.

Carol, what state are you in?

I agree. While my local store actually finally caught up to everyone else's prices, I could get the 3.8 bales for 18.50 there vs. the $23 not 10 miles away near work.
Sigh, they went up to 21.95 this year. Still cheaper. It was inevitable.

Thanks greengardner-I missed that post, but if I run into new sources I'll post there to keep bumping it up!

Can't find the other seed thread, so pulled up this one.

WM finally put up their seed display in Concord, NH sometime earlier this week.

Still waiting on Agway's T&M display (not fodder for the 'cheap seeds' thread, though)

carol, you and me both. I cant tell you HOW MANY trips to the various dollar stores and big lots I did at various times last year looking for the cheap seeds. Like I REALLY need to do that. You get in even ONE swap and you got enough seeds to grow a farm.

    :)
