Newbie here, cleaned up at Meijer

I have handled and loved plants all my life and was even the garden mgr at a Franks many years ago. I now have a home and a garden. Today was out shopping around in Meijer and they had a clearance rack. I have to go check the varities but got 3 6 in pots of different yarrow each $1.33 gallon size of candytuft, 3 varities of perrenial salvia, a catnip, 2 different types of coral bells, 2 of coreopsis and 3 I have forgotten. All the gallon size are $1.68 ea. Some look kind of rough but if I can baby them and save them I will have beautiful plants next year. Thanks for allowing me to share. Vicci

This is the perfect time of year to snap up those bargins! A couple of hours in the hot sun can make a potted flower look pretty sad, but a little TLC usually coaxes them back to beauty! Lowes is another great place to pick up "clearance" plants for low, low prices. It's funny how many folks won't purchace plants unless they are in full bloom. I usually look for the ones with buds. If they have already bloomed, a good dead-heading will usually make them bloom again. If not, the perennials will bloom next Summer!

    Killer. Good for you.....
i have a home depot, not 8 blocks from my house, and the clearance rack has great deals if you are patient enough to wait.

Meijer by us has a great garden center. FAR superior to the other big boxes. I have found some unusual shrubs there over the years.

I used to work at Frank's, too. I was an unrepentant dumpster-diver and took home hundreds of plants that corporate ordered us to throw away. One evening's haul was 27 rose bushes! I was passing them out to friends like candy.

I like Meijer, too. I just bought some inexpensive shrubs there the other day, and looking out my window right now I can see the Nikko Blue hydrangea that I got year before last for $1. You know how they have those little boxes with a root in them, and maybe a leaf or two on top? That's how three of my hydrangeas and my Concord Grape started out in life--the boxes were water damaged so they were marked down to nothing.

This year, the grape is about thirty feet of vine, with grapes on it, and the hydrangeas are 30" tall and blooming nicely. I love a bargain, and it helps me swallow the $21 each I paid for my Annabelle hydrangeas and the unmentionable sum I spent on my cherry laurel :-)

I hit up the local Lowes to check out what sorts of 'lightly killed' plants they have all the time.

It's a great way to pick up cheap perennials.

    oooh, I love a plant bargain! :D
I picked up 3 different peonies, a trumpet vine, several different color dahlias and lillies for $1 each. If I had more money I would have gotten more plants.
Of course now I have to make room for all these cheap little darlings...
