I picked up a Toro Snow Hound and have been finding it very hard to find any Info on it.I would like to know what year is it. The serial (model)number is 31103, It's an older model. I've also tried the Toro website, but this serial(model)number doesn't show up.Maybe someone out there can help me.

Thank You

Well, there is a 31303 for a 1973 model. Hint- you can do a search "view model list", hit the 3 tab and scroll down the list. I know a bit about them and they do come up on the forum every so often, so you're in a good place.

Thanks for the feedback tomplum, sad to say I've already been on that site. I think I'll try e-mailing Toro for some Info, but Thanks again

They were gutsy little things; good for sidewalk duty.

I e-mailed Toro and asked what yr would the model 31103 be? and also do they carry a owners manual. They replied that the snow hound is a 1963 model and they would try and locate a manual for me. So thanks for all the help :-)

Are you going to be restoring it? Last winter there was guy on Craigslist wanting $$$ for his.

Yes, that's what I plan on doing. Restoring it, but I don't want to sell it.
I Still have a long way to go with this machine. I'll keep you posted

How much was he asking on Craigslist? I have two complete units in good condition sitting around.

Honestly, I think it was $450. He had a pic and the manual. It looked nice, but my jaw dropped at the price. They were a piece of history, more of a collectible. Certainly more capable machines have been made.

They work great for sidewalks with a throw of at least 6 feet in wet snow. But you're right, they are an interesting piece of antiquity.

I am working on an old Jacobson snow blower, 2 stroke, right now and after cleaning the carb, it started right up and ran smoothly. Very simple device. Seems to have only one forward speed controlled only by one throw lever. If it's adjustable, I can't see it.

I used to hate working on those Jakes. Getting at the carb was no treat. Your right on the speed- went as fast as you would hold the handle bar up.

I had one that I put back together for my dad - the problem was starting that ol beast.

I myself have had that machine working well in very cold/large snowfalls and I was very impressed. It really did much more than I would have expected from it...

However - starting it was a problem - it had a very weak spark... and the occasional stall and restart ritual was exhausting.

Mine started easy, so I would say it was a carb problem on your machine.

Guys, In my sept. 30th post I stated that I e-mailed Toro for the yr of the snow hound and if they could get me a owners manual. Well low and behold,Today in my mail was the owners manual, sent from Toro. I really didn't think they would come through, but they proved me wrong. So I sent them a very appreciative Thank You.

I bought an old Wheelhorse from the '80s. I requested a manual for the mower, deck and snowblower. Maybe Toro owned the Wheelhorse company at that point, but they sent me a Xerox of all 3 complete manuals along with illustrated parts lists and numbers. Very good PR.
