Hi! I have a few chimera violets. I've had them a couple of years and they have never produced any suckers. Is there any way in getting them to produce suckers? Thanks for your assistance.
I heard that if you stick a needle in a stem - the plant reacts by sucker.
What I saw how people actually propagate them - is they cut the top of the crown off - reroot it - and the rest of the plant starts producing suckers, suckers and suckers.
About the bloomstalks - I tried it - they rot for me, but a friend of mine does it successfully. It has more chances if the bloomstalk has visible small leaves. In any case it takes a looong time.
I went through the whole propagation of chimera , interesting, how in the world were they ever developed in the first place if its that hard. You have to destroy one plant to make several but you have to wait and wait and wait and wait.
I have Pony Ride, Hawaiian Trail, Pixie Runaround Sport, Snowy Egret Sport and Skagit Pixie Trails Sport. I am going to practice on my non-chimeras. :-)
I have broken off suckers/crowns (I only grow are trailers) and have had them bloom true. That's what great about the trailers: You don't have to destroy the mother plant to get more.
I've read about people getting chimeras spontaneously. Wonder if that's how they started since three of mine are sports. Inquiring minds want to know!
