I built a frame of 2 x 4 s and stapled window screen material on what would be the inside and then put together these frames so I had a cage that was 4 x 4 x 4. I did add wheels to make it easier to move around. 3 sides and a top made it fairly easy to contain the material from the discharge.

I was going to say screen or chicken wire. Also a burlap sack cinched up around the outlet like a leaf blower bag. In a pinch I've laid down a wheelbarrow or two on their sides to catch the brunt of it.

Tox - you thinking something like this? Maybe even bigger (this one is 24" x 60").

How about just a big sleeve, open at the far end, but long enough to basically slow everything down? Or a large plastic tube (I'm thinking corrugated drain pipe) to act like a long chute?

Tex,the bag is somthing I had looked at but like the one linked,not reccomended for wood and as you know,people who compost and worm become frugal.
I am starting visulize somthing combining corrugated french drain pipe with the burlap or wire at the terminal end.
May take some fiddling with leinght and slope of pipe but the right combonation of ribs slowing things down and wheep holes bleeding off air just might be what I need. Thanks Tex & Tox,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sounds like a couple of old west cow punchers.

What ever is used to catch those wood chips will need to have a way for the air that will accompany them out of the discharge chute to escape. The tiny catch bag that came with my chipper/shredder was made of a fabric that was woven too tightly and almost as much material was blown out where that bag attached as went in.

I will be trying a market catch-bag for my Mighty-Mac, along with a tarp and laundry (plastic) basket, which the machine will blow with lots of force, and hopefully catch most of the shredded wood waste.
