replacement engine for John Deere 111

Hello,

11Hp B-S engine died on my John Deere 111. I am looking for a replacement engine that would more or less fall in place of the old one, preferably something with a little more power.

What size vertical crankshaft? There is currently 6-8" clearance between engine and top of hood. Any recommendations? Would a vanguard twin work?

Vanguard twin would be over kill and in my estimation too much money and work. Briggs has 13 1/2 hp singles that should work as long as the shaft length and diameter are correct. Ensure the wiring matches the engine you have to avoid some aggravation.
