Theresa, I'm not sure about the ipomopsis - I sow annual salvias in February, nasturtiums in March, and hold off until April for zinnias and morning glories. I'm in zone 6 (southcoast MA).

But that's just my personal agenda - nasturtiums reseed, so I suspect they can be done earlier. Morning glories, though, rot for me if I put them out too early; that's why I wait until April for them.

My nasties have acted the same as Drippy's experience. Sown early, they rotted. Sown around March, they do great.

Scarlet runner beans attract them too. I spring sowed them mid April. I grew them with my morning glories on the same arbor last year. Lobelia Cardinalis attracts hummers too, but I had to wait for second summer for blooms.
I always buy one fuschia hanger, they love them as well.
