Haven't seen this question ???

While digging through my jugs to get ready to wsow this weekend I just found a jug of forget-me-nots that I sowed last weekend and did not put outside. Guess what, full of sprouts! Now what???? Do I put it outside or do I have to take care of it in the house? The ground is frozen solid and they are forecasting 12-24" of snow tonight. What do I do with my first babies?

I believe that you will have to grow them indoors until it is warm enough to put them outside in the spring. If you have an indoor light set-up, use that, otherwise it is the window sill. If you don't want to be bothered looking after them for such a long period, just compost and start over again with new (unsprouted) seeds. Forgetmenots aren't an expensive or rare seed.

do you have a garage with a window? I was thinking you may be able to gradually get them in there where it is cooler than the house but not as cold as inside.

I guess you could try them inside and they have some early plants to plant out.

Let us know what you do, I am curious...

I was thinking of sowing some tomatoes in my garage to give them a little extra boost. Mine is insulated and stays much warmer than outside and I have a bright window.

My garage is built into the house, actually its pretty warm. I do my wintersowing in my sunroom that has a woodstove, so the room was toasty warm and the seeds must have loved it. We have a mudroom that has a small window that would provide enought light, but we keep it cool so that our outdoor cats have a place to come inside during really cold weather without having to worry that they will shed their warm winter coats. I don't want to lose these seedlings because they are a pink variety. I'll have to see what happens, as the snow is falling and it is supposed to be down the 13 tomorrow night. Oh the trials and tribulations of wintersowing.

lol....zone warm and comfy! zone no-snow zone don't need shoes on zone - no one will see you when you have a towel wrapped around your head, you are in your jammies and bent over looking at your jugs!

I almost lost that mouthful of tea I had when I read gardenluv's response. I did LOL!

I decided to keep them inside because the snow just stopped falling and we have 24" with more to come on Tuesday night and the temps will be in the teens tonight. I'm sure they would freeze to death before they got their second set of leaves.

Brandy, I guess I have to deduct 1 jug from the ws count for zone 6.

I must say, I don't think I have ever seen anyone post a negative number to the count! That cracks me up!

I was really being lazy today and didn't want to get out in the cold and the snow, but now my 20 jugs are out of the warm house and outside. Just did them last night. Don't want no babies here yet. Good luck on yours
