    This idea is awesome!

I actually ran out of milk jugs. If I use plastic cups, where should I put them? How many seeds can they accomodate? Do you have another picture that's not close enough so I can see how the outer container looks like?

    Thanks! :)

If that is what you did your first year WS'ing then I am REALLY excited now. My first year and only the poppies have sprouted but I am looking forward to success like that! Beautiful pics. Thanks

On the cups I used 8 oz foam coffee cups & put them into sweater boxes from the Dollar General store, they had enough headway but after one year of using the boxes the plastic became brittle, so I am still pondering what to use this year, right now I am sooooo far behind on my winter sowing that I am still working on my larger jugs. If you click on any pic it should make it larger, just remember to put drainage hole in the cups & the large container that holds that smaller cups. The seed amount in each cup is different depending on the kind of seed & how many I had, but I sow pretty thick. What I like about the cups is that when family & friends come over I can just grab some cups & send home with them. ")

How did you cover the sweater boxes? Did you just use clear plastics and put holes?

    Hi v1rtu0s1ty,
Sorry to interrupt. I have a question for you over at the perennials forum about your dogwood cuttings ...

    Thanks!

    v1rtuos,

Here is a pic of my last years winter sowing. I used 16ounce cups, tucked into bread crates and covered with bedding bags.If you dont have bedding bags a dollar store clear shower liner covers two bread crates.

    I hope this helps

I don't see any holes on your bedding bags. Am I correct? If so, how will the water make it to the potting mix?

How did you acquire those bread crates?

    Thanks for the picture! :)

Lilyjane, I LOVE those two "Garden Helpers" you have! Oh my gosh... they are too darn CUTE!! Great pics, thanks for sharing them!

There are small holes in the bags above each cup. I made them larger and larger as the days became warmer.

I simply asked the grocery store manager if I could borow the bread crates. I washed and returned them when I was done with them. This year I just pulled around back and took some to use an I'll return them when I'm done with them.

I bought this evening a promix potting mix at 40 ct 8 oz plastic cups :D

Oh, how many seeds can I put in each plastic cup? So 15 to 20 seeds should be enough right?

    Thank you so much!

Lisa, I would love to get my hands on some bread crates, I will have to look into that BIG GRINNS :)
virtu0s1ty, one the mater seeds I only put one or 2 seeds per cup but on the flowers well it is just up to you I sow heavy & then just hunk os seed them out or at least tear in half, the main reason I like smaller cups is 1st, so I can share with others (it is so easy to just grab a few cups to send home or to take to people, no mess & so cute !) & 2nd, in case I only have a few seeds on one kind, I save my milk jugs & 2 litter pop jugs for stuff like squash,(it gets big) & also stuff that I plant alot of like rose moss, hollyhock, blanket flower. I started wsing last year & have a very large yard with lots of spaces to fill.
nancy drew, thanks, the girls Burbon (with the white) & Peanut are sisters ")
