But, apparently it doesn't always work so well. US Forest Service does this quite a bit for establishing protective cover on burn sites after forest fires, particularly on slopes.

TXEB, I imagine the seeds sown before our recent good rains would be in a good situation. They get some shade in the standing corn to keep the soil moist.

I plant the tillage type radishes in some plots that are finished for the season. ....like the first five plantings of sweet corn. They are looking great and grow very fast and they really, really do shut out weeds supremely.

Aerial seeding of cover crops is pretty common...that said...on no-till lands it's proven to be a crapshoot. It was a near sure-thing before a lot of GMO caused a lot of corn/soy farmers to go no-till, but less soil/moisture contact for the seed caused by built up organic matter on top of the soil that's in the process of breaking down, seed contact with the soil is lessened...plus there's the issue of seed/seedling predators snacking on the seeds and taking cover in the no-till litter.

Some aerial seeding on no-till has been a disaster the past decade.

The seeding across the road is no longer no-till. However it isn't deeply chisel plowed like many around here.
