sprout! now what?

Just checked my containers and I have one sprout -- leaf lettuce. Now what do I do with it? We still have a couple feet of snow on the ground here. Do I just leave it in its little container, transplant it to a bigger one when it grows?

Last year I did just two containers of annuals and I did them later. By the time they were ready to go the weather was nice.

leave it alone until it's safe to plant outside.
If it gets too big for the container...eat it! lol

Congrats...and ditto what Laura said. If it gets too big for the container, EAT it!

Did the happy dance, but discovered it right before I had to leave for work. The problem isn't so much the sprout, but the container -- it's a .5 L water bottle. I had a bunch of them lying around and decided not to waste them. Now I see that it won't allow much room for upward growth.

Oh well, guess it's a salad green in a few weeks :)

If you have to transplant it, you can always transplant it in the ground and then cover with something such as the half top of a L bottle or milk jug. That way it still gets the protection it may need.
