Still Amazed

Yesterday I finished prepping the two tractors for their winter nap and took them out to the back garage.

I decided to bring the snow blower up to the front garage.

Pumped the primer six times and pulled the starter rope.

The motor started with one pull after almost nine month of storage.

I had to stay on the primer to give it a couple of squirts until the gas got flowing through the carburetor but besides that it ran fine.

This is my tenth season with this blower and it still amazes me how it starts.

The blower came with electric start which I only used once to see if it worked.

Hats off to Tecumseh and their Snow King motors.

Success of that engine was one of their downfalls.

I happened into an independent shop trying to find an oddball sized deck belt. While the staff was out looking for this specific belt, I wondered the showroom looking at the new stuff.

The small engines on most all of the products have more vac lines, tubes along with other California air resource mandated (no pun intended) carburetors....

What hit me was the simplicity of my older units. What struck me also was the absolute nightmare to keep this new garbage running....one season. No adjustments available.

I actually saw a Toro zero turn rider priced at over 10k with a catalytic converter on the motor...along with fuel
vapor recovery systems. I see air bags and mandatory seat belts soon...

I came home to admire that 71 Comet GT 302 I bought in high school new almost 38 yrs ago...

Remember that the greatest threat to mankind is the lawnmower. Al Gore.

I picked this up on the web: "......grasses are the third most important source of oxygen in the word, behind trees and algae."

I guess then if we get rid of the "greatest threat to mankind", we would also have to get rid of our beautiful lawns as an ornamental element. And we then lose an important global source of oxygen. So it's a lose-lose situation! What an inconvenient truth, Al.

grass does not equal lawn (in multiple ways I guess)

Al gore is a joke and the funny think some people listen to him. I for one don't believe al gore created the web. he may of took some under the table money for suggesting it though like all good old polickision. Once he get rid of the Lawnmower passing gas will be next!

Al Gore is nothing but phony. I can just look at him and tell. It's written all over him. He has never had an original thought. Al Gore talking about science and global warming is as ridiculous as me speaking at a meeting of CPAs at an accounting seminar. Gore is just a fake and a bad fake at that.

To the OP: The Snow king is surely to be missed. Hopefully you have yours for a long time.
To the others that don't have respect for AL Gore, that is your right. I listen and don't think he has all the answers. None of us do. Maybe he motivates individuals who care to do things better. Thinking business as usual is simply not good for the planet. Mowing acres upon acres of grass does what for you and the environment? Think about it. New emissions as noted by marky are coming. Have you compared what a lifetime of use of this equipment will save in emissions? Some things we do -like E85 is tough to make sense out of. Sure, it's easy to work on what you know. The simple stuff. The less regulated equipment. I like things less regulated myself. I learned to drive in a 56 Olds. Lot easier twisting wrenches on that that what we drive everyday. It's great to have a turnkey car and trucks tho. Mileage is certainly a tad better than the 8 MPG of the Olds, less emission and no oil slicks at the stop signs. It is time to do better. Good luck on your next Nobel prize.

tomplum sez: "Maybe he motivates individuals who care to do things better. Thinking business as usual is simply not good for the planet."

Tom, if an individual (Al Gore) wants to motivate people to do things better, you first MUST set an example. You don't do that by driving two gas-guzzling luxury import cars and operate a mansion that has the carbon foot-print of Godzilla. When you do that, you have lost all your credibility. He may have since traded in his cars, don't know, but too little too late. Damage was done.

If Big Al is right, dynamike can just keep the Snow King in the shed because he won't need it anymore : ) I agree that actions speak louder than words.

Maybe you guys don't know that big AL isn't showing up at "important" speaking engagements lately. Hiding out until the weather changes, I guess. :) (For the warmer)

    Talk about a hi-jacked thread.
Leave politics and your soap boxes at home.

    "Talk about a hi-jacked thread.
Leave politics and your soap boxes at home."

Yah, I thought about that dynamike. Sorry about the hi-jack. For me, it's just that I have cabin fever already with single digit temps outside and no grass to cut or snow to blow. Again, sorry for my part.

So we have dynamike and larso waiting for snow, and it occurred to me that everyone I know in snowland is still waiting for snow. Anybody sitting on snow yet?

Soap boxes. thread owner. That's cute.

We got snow last night, first snow of the year for us. About 1", not enough to stick.

We have one inch of fresh snow here in Madison, and we have the cold weather to boot, so I expect it to stay around 'till May. More snow is expected in a few days.

"Leave politics and your soap boxes at home" Sorry dynomike you have no more control over the net or posts than al gore or the "demo". Now if you would of said please it may of discouraged some of us? I heard Houston TX. got some snow and sleet yesterday?

4" so far in eastern PA

So I guess the only way to keep dyno happy is to pat him on the back for having a snow thrower that starts easy (I guess that was his reason for starting a this thread). Congrats dyno, you and your snow thrower are the best. Now you can get off your Snow King Soap Box and get busy throwing snow.

I really don't know what The Dyno was thinking that this might just be a simple place to chat about power equipment without all the strife of the everyday world coming into play. Maybe if he said please or just made it a friendly suggestion? With that being said, you own a post about as much as the public sidewalk in front of your house I guess. I hope he still contributes.

I kindof enjoyed the Al Gore bashing. It's funny, he couldn't even carry his own state in the election. If he had, he would have won and there would have been no controversy. Now he is getting rich with his carbon offsets while the earth is actually cooling. He has a bigger carbon footprint than any 50 families put together. He actually had a tanker truck come to fuel his 'yaht' (sorry spelling) on Tims Ford Lake not far from my house.
Sorry for the rant but it saddens me to see him profit so and see him not live by what he is so very good at preaching.
Also sorry to the original poster about getting off topic! It's just some things I feel strongly about and have seen firsthand.

    I'am sorry guys.
I guess I had a moment of weakness.
After four years of reading posts ,I should have realized that it is improper to brag about your equipement on this forum .
Please forgive me and this won't happen again.

We are all just giving you a hard time. I think those of us without snow to throw get a little bitter this time of the year when the lawn turns brown and we don't get our allotted seat time. Let the record show that I am still jealous of your snow thrower and would like to change the subject to something else. Have you seen the stories on Tiger lately?

It's supposed to be minus 5-deg.F. tonight, wind gusts up to 40mph today with about 2-in. snow.

Personally, I don't mind people taking off in another direction from the subject of any post I start (although I don't start that many). Heck, I'm just glad someone's contributing something to my posts.... ;o)

***"Have you seen the stories on Tiger lately?"***
Yes! Most recent photo of the couple shown here.

If I understand the news today, the blonde is the one with the bruises today.

Although I voted for Al Gore, I also own an Ariens snowblower, with a Tecumseh Snow-King engine. It started on the first pull, a few days ago, after sitting unused since last winter. Al Gore was not the only politician who had problems with his home district. On a recent trip to New York, I visited the Franklin D Roosevelt home and museum, located in Hyde Park, NY. Hyde Park is located in Dutchess County, and FDR was not able to win an election in Dutchess County, ever...

Hi Jack! How are you doing? Alls I could find on Tigger today was about his MIL going to the horspital with abdominal pain.

The Isohydric shift is the opposing and counterbalancing changes in hydrogenâion concentration occurring in peripheral tissues when dioxygen leaves the blood and carbon dioxide enters it. The hydration of CO2 to H2CO3, catalysed by erythrocyte carbonic anhydrase, has a tendency to lower the blood pH. This tendency is counteracted in some degree by the simultaneous deoxygenation of hemoglobin; deoxyhemoglobin binds hydrogen ions more strongly than oxyhemoglobin, thus tending to raise the blood pH.

    I am "still amazed" that:

1: She is still in the same house with him.

2: Al Gore can still show his face.

I am "still amazed" that this thread still has life! LOL!

We have 14 inches of fresh, sticky, snow. The Ariens snowblower started on the first pull, but I still spent two hours out there, trying to get the heavy white stuff moved off the sidewalk & driveway. There were many places that I had to scrape by hand, the snowblower just wouldn't pick up snow that was packed flat. They must use slippery paint on the discharge chute, because I didn't have to stop and clean it out. There are local news reports about several people who ended up in the emergency room, with severe hand injuries caused by cleaning out snowblower discharge chutes. I think the Ariens moved a ton of snow today.

Per ericwi "I think the Ariens moved a ton of snow today." Probably a ton a minute! Isn't it great the first workout? Sounds like you had a blast...

Am I right Tecumseh is out of buisness. My snow king is 14 years old on a 10-32d Deere and it runs like a man possessed . beats the oil a bit. works hard. replaced pull start today a new one was 100 bucks bought used for 40

They are, but there was some thread on here about it coming back to life under new ownership.

What?? I thought Algore INVENTED the lawn mower...

Its quality and maintenance, cannot have one w/o the other. You must have taken care of it through the years. These things just don't happen by chance.
