To me it looks like it's not getting enough light. Usually violets will reach upward in an attempt to get more light. Try a slightly brighter location and see if that lays the leaves down flat. Don't put it in too bright a spot or you risk sunburning the leaves.

I agree that it appears to have insufficient light. To give it its best chances to be a plant worth keeping, I would also repot it. It sits so far down in the pot that flat leaves would break off or be damaged by laying flat. It also appears to have some suckers. So, knock it out of the pot, remove any suckers, take off outer leaves that are damaged, do some general grooming, and repot into a pot that is 1/3 the diameter of the plant, or what it would be if it was laying flat. Be sure the plant is centered in the pot, and the soil level is pretty much even with the top of the pot. That way, the pot won't interfere with the leaves attempt to flatten out when the plant has better light.

This plant can grow very large, and has nice blossoms.

I agree with everyone who's posted. If we had an "aerial" view, we might be able to tell more.

Another possibility that I sometimes see in store plants is that there are actually 2 plants in there. I just got an Optimara at Lowes and had to divide it into two. You can tell by the number of centers (crowns) but if it has many suckers, as seems the case here, it can be a puzzle to sort out what goes where.
