Here is a link that might be useful: castor bean seed

don't eat it!

Looking forward to a pic. I think that castor beans are mostly dark brown with tan mottling. You might have a scarlet runner or horticulture bean seed. Not sure. Ellen knows that the caster bean is very poisonous. Risen powder, from the castor bean, is the white powder that was mailed to Gov't. offices a few years ago that caused such a fuss.

Thanks! Luckily I knew Castor bean was poisionous.

I saw the google images and mine is a bit different.

Looks like Scarlet Runner Bean to me!

thanks might be it Wendy!
Thanks

I looked it up on another site but when I tried to post GW blocked it...

Those look just like the scarlet runner beans we planted this afternoon! They were perfect for my 3 1/2 yr old's little hands. They will be placed at the base of her tee-pee this spring. :)

I agree that's it's scarlet runner bean.
Very pretty and they are edible, although I've never tried them. I do grow them for the hummers.

Apparently, I grow mine for the grasshoppers : (

Karen

Most definitely looks like the scarlet runner beans I have from my vines. I've never picked them to eat, only pick to save the seed for the next years vines. However, I know the Hummers love them.

Hmmmmm, I better get them out and put them in the sowing to-do pile.

Sandy

I agree. It does look just like Scarlet Runner Beans. I grew them last year for the first time too and saved some seed.

Does anyone eat these? If so, how do you?

I am planting the seed soon... I hope it grows. It does look pretty.

Does it get invasive?

Karen

Nah! Not like a morning glory. You have to pick the pods and split them open to get the beans. They're an annual for me.

And the hummers love them!
