so, you grow betta from birth to adulthood?
I was just told by a shop guy that betta rarely bare/bring up bettalets in home tanks, but books tell me the opposite thing. Is there any secret to it?

I found it to be pretty easy, as long as you stick to the how-to advice on the web. The hard part is maintaining the cultures (microworms, brine shrimp, etc.)to keep them fed. I was feeding them twice a day with brine shrimp and only lost 1 or 2 out of 70. All in all it's worth doing at least once, but if you're too successful you'll be looking for a lot of fish homes.

Whao, that's strange! He's pretty, but it does look odd. I assume that his innards (& GI tract) are all OK, otherwise he wouldn't have survived.

Hmm.... you answered the question I've often asked myself when reading accounts of breeding bettas.... all those fry! Did you have to separate all the males out from one another? I've raised batches of Rainbowfish fry (closely followed the spawning pair around with a siphon to get the eggs before the corydoras in my community tank ate them all) and then had to do the "feed the babies" routine in a quickly set up smaller tank ..... whew! Next time, I just let the catfish have them.... *sigh*. It was a huge time committment! My hat's off to you! And to your little tail-less survivor!

Yes, I don't know what was more work, raising all those fry or trying to find homes for them all once they were grown. It's an interesting thing to try...ONCE. It seemed to me that they all get along pretty well until they're separated. Once you separate them and then try to put them back together they really pick at each other. I still have some that were never separated that get along pretty well as adults.
