Well, I had one betta with this. I did pea but with castor oil - it is a natural laxitive.

That said this guy didn't make it. One day he was fine, next he was not fine ie floating. He though, was a rescue betta and not in good shape, condition when I got him (all were about to be flushed so were worst case scenario, to put it into perspective), many I took in didn't make it, they were in horrific shape when I took them in.

However, now two are thriving. (after horrible flexibar bacteria). One named scooter, scoots, ie no working swim bladder, so scoots along bottom. They were going to flush him so I took him. Beautiful cardinal red with torquoise tips on scales and fins, just so beautiful, and never ill.

Just can't swim, so low long bowl, with java moss, rocks to rest on, and filter... No amount of pea or castor could put poor scooter back together again, lol. It was mechanical in nature, ie shipping bruise, or genetic so on.

There is mechanical damage as with scooter, and those that are over fed or sometimes damage due to water conditions ie bacterial. (not saying it was you, as they are kept usually, not always, in sub prime conditions before the customer buys them, so much damage prior is possible).

Nonetheless, keep conditions optiomal. Try pea with oil, even olive if you don't have castor oil on hand. (just a tad) Keep water clean after... I feed mine once a day! A couple (read three at most) flakes or frozen whatever.

Remember, their stomach is about the size of their little itty bitty eye. (if dried food, soak first, as it will bloat in their stomachs, ie it is more then original size)

Ok, I admit, later about a few hours prior to lights out (dimmer and lights out) a flake or two of spirulena flake food to contrast protiem diet in am. Hard to resist that betta wiggle but got to do it, lol.
