When They Get Too Big?

Although I normally buy small fish for my 30G tank (36x18x12), sometimes they get away from me. Four years ago when I set up my tank I purchased a plecostamus (chocolate?) and a synodonis cat. From tiny $3 babies they have become magnificent specimens. The pleco is rich brown with gold fin edges and about 7" long. The synodonis, slightly smaller, is black with large lacey fins (enormous dorsal). Obviously they are too big for my tank, although they both thrive.

How do I find a new home for these fish? Anyone would want them, but I want to be sure they are going into a big tank with an experienced owner. It used to be that a local fish store would maintain a large show tank with mature fish. They would take overgrown pets. You could even visit them! Now all we have are chain pet stores and they don't even maintain display tanks.
