Yes, I'd advise you to keep all minis in one tray and all standards in another tray.

I use several different ways of watering, one with mats.

Next time you water, take a measuring cup and see how much a tray of minis need in order to drink up all the standing water in the tray. I usually put in two cups.

For standards 3 cups are necessary.

Sometimes the trays bend slightly so plants that are at the end or on the sides get no water at all. Be sure to water these as well.

I like mats because I can easily see when plants need watering again.

Also, what kind of mix are you using? It should be 1 part peat or comm. mix, 1 part vermiculite, and 2 parts perlite. With a mix this light, you *can't* overwater. Oh, and when you plant, don't pack the mix in; spoon it in the pot and sift it around the roots.

I use capillary matting for all of my leaves, new plantlets, and minis. After they outgrow a 2 1/2" pot they move off the mats. I add water to the tray maybe to a 1/4" above the mat and let them sit. If after 30 mins. there is still water standing, it is too much. The trick is to let the plant absorb as much water as possible, and have the mat still sopping wet. If they have absorbed all water and soil still not well watered, add water again.
Works great for me - and so much more gentle on the plants than individual reservoirs.
