Jelly bean parrots are dipped into a vat of acid to strip their slime coats, then dipped into a vat of dye, then dipped in to an artificial slime coat. This leaves them in what ever color the dye was, the dye however fades over time, assuming the fish lives long enough; a great many parrot fish do not survive because the process is highly stressful.

Im not sure we're talking about the same fish.Ive had mine about 3 years now, they came orange stayed orange. All of a sudden her belly got white. The space is getting bigger.I wondered why.

I've linked to the picture of the fish I am talking about. It may take a few years for the color to disappear. If you have one of these parrots and its not light pink or convict striped then it is with out a doubt dyed. If its another fish and it is freshwater then it is misnamed.

Yes thats them shes a really dark orange so is he.It seems odd theyd lose thier color now.Im thinking I had her longer than I said/.I also heard they dont reproduce. Is that right?she gets big,I saw what I thought was mating a few times.LIke him following behind alot like hes fertilizing eggs but never had young.Theyre pretty when so big.

I think it might just be natural aging. They are bred from red devils which become progressively plainer looking as they get older. You could try feeding with colour enhancing foods and of course making sure the water is top quality.

My parrot fish do the same thing. I believe they are both females, and was very concerned when I saw this one losing color! Google led me to thinking she was laying eggs. They are generally both a deep orange color.

Maybe the colors changed. As for me I'm getting a cichlid called the (RED PHOENIX KING CICHLID). which is from South and Central America and grows up to a large 32 inches and will kill a Texas cichlid. There a Texas cichlid hobbyist will with a YouTube video that shows his Texas cichlid eating a baby cuban cichlid he calls himself (the sarusi) the video is called red Texas eat cuban cichlid. As for me I'm on a site called animal world.com and a site called myfishtank.net my nicknames are wolfman and tuc.
