It's not necessarily normal but it is not uncommon. I have a violet called voodoo magic that suckered. The first picture is of the mother plant. The second picture is of the child plant. This is really a good example of how unstable African violets can be. This is especially true of bicolored or tricolored violets.

I think Bob Serbin is proned to sporting like that. Rachels Reflections has a photo of her Bob Serbin sport. I've also heard of a peachy colored sport off the Serbin I think!

i have a purple double violet but when i grow the baby seperately and now it is blooming, it turned out to be single only. not sure if it is due to age. do older violets produce double, or rather do young double violet produce single when young?

I really don't think it matters how old they violet is. In the example of the two violets that I showed the pictures of the mother plant was rather young and the sucker developed immediately after the last repotting. I have bought starter plants where the plants never bloomed true. These were brand-new plants.

I've posted an image of my Bob Serbin sport in the Gallery section. It's flowers are almost waxy (kind of orchid like in texture) and last a long time. I really like it a lot.

They do last a long time and they have such deep colours.

I also have a Beatrice Trail and its flowers are quite lack lustre compared to my Bob Serbin.

I am new to African Violets. I always avoided them as they seemed very difficult plants. No I am very impressed that I can keep them growing and flowering!

Swiss, join the ranks of the impressed. I think most of us were intimidated at first, but then once you learn what they need, they're actually quite easy. Mostly. ;-)
