Hello...First rose, first post

Hi everyone,

I have been reading, searching and admiring beautiful photos in this forum for quite sometime to decide what to get as my first rose. I am new to rose addiction but not to gardening and bonsai world. My problem is, once I start I can't stop. Couple months ago, I was not even aware of the rose sections of the nurseries I visit, now all I can see is roses. It all started when I wanted to have a white climber for a 6 ft tall wrought iron fence. First I thought about a star jasmine, then wanted something with a bigger presence and fragrance. So after a long research first on www then here in this forum, I got myself a sombreuil in a 3 gallon pot.Now that I got my first rose all I can think about is that 36" tall iceberg rose tree. I think it will look beautiful next to the garage door. It is also on sale for $35, so I should go and get it, right? Oh gosh, this is an addiction...

Run, do not walk, to the store and buy it! I have two of the 36" Icebergs in tree form and wow! They are spectacular.

Yes, yes, yes, you should go and buy the iceberg. You may even see some more must have roses while you are there.

And so it begins! I too have the rose addiction. I swore to myself that there would be no more roses until the fall because it is too hot right now, I couldn't afford it, it would be more work, I would have to be exposed to more fungicides, etc..... Well, I have been good for a while, but Sunday I had to get a filter for my A/C and I went to Home Depo. I did NOT go into the garden center, BUT they had the most beautiful roses displayed outside the door of the main entrance. They were on fortuniana rootstock! I bought St. Patrick and Our Lady of Guadeloupe because I could not possibly be expected to choose between them. Now they are sitting on my front porch waiting to be planted. I fell off the wagon.

Welcome, longcommute...it is indeed a journey of addiction and heartbreak, of beauty and of fragrance that makes your very heart ache with longing for something you can never fully identify.

greenhaven...I couldn't have said it better! Yes, welcome longcommute. RUN to the store and get your rose. There will be many more to follow. Enjoy the simplicity now of only having a couple roses.

If you don't go back and get that rose you will think about it for months until winter arrives and its too late! So save yourself the agony and go back now. I don't grow rose trees but I do have Cl. Iceberg and I really like it. And so the madness begins..,
