You can use low flow filters, but if you keep thenm in small containers the water should be changed at least once a week. More often if cloudy. An easier way to do it is use duplicate containers .This way you always have another ready to go.
If you are serious about breeding Bettas you might check into the "Betta barracks" setups.
There is nothing as much fun as washing a hundred or so containers every week lol The barracks systems will cut the work in half and best of all the water quality will be much better.

If you want to keep just a single Betta as a pet, treat the fish and yourself, to well planted Eclipse tank.

Of all the innovations in small aquariums, if there are any that will beat an Eclipse for keeping a single Betta in really healthy conditions, I've yet to find it.

I agree - I just love the small eclipse tanks for bettas! (3 gallon or 5 gallon hex!)

We keep our Betta in an Eclipse 3 and while I think he might have more fun in a 5, he has been living in the 3 since we bought him nearly 4 years ago, and is in wonderful condition.

But it's also loaded with live plants and I figured out how to re-use the filter cartriges, so I can give him fresh media every week, while the bio wheel keeps the good bacteria alive.

The only real down side to any of the Eclipse hoods is the outrageous cost of the cartridges, but now that I know how to clean and recharge them to be actually BETTER than as bought new, and do it so cheaply, it's next to zip; that issue is null.
