Yay, ellen! Probably not but the mystery could be Siberian Wallflower but those are more true orange. Haven't had success with gaillardia yet, WS'ed some, not my fav but bloom all summer and nice accents of color.

There are several ruds that are burnt orange. I guess we'll figure it out when you post a photo, too bad you couldn't grab one when it was growing in the comm garden. Oh well. I do that, too, don't haul my camera everywhere.

Maybe you could find what it is at Bluestone? Might be tedious plowing thru but they might have color search options. But it could have been an annual. Can you describe the bloom form? I won't know but somebody might.

Sorry to have whetted your appetite for mystery - I can't tell you anything about the flower. It might even be a wild flower. I remember small, on a long rangy stem, and color -
