I really want to thank the people who suggested bottom watering, and the person who recommended going by weight to know if the container needs water.

(Sorry can't remember names, but you know who you are :))

I had been going by if the top dried out I'd water.

But since I've been bottom watering I see I had not been watering enough.

Now I put the containers in water, and let them soak it up until the tops are moist, and they feel heavy.

Then I let them dry out before doing that again.

I think this works a lot better, and removes the guesswork. Now I really can tell by weight when they are dry.
